Shotley and Holbrook Surgeries

GP and Staff Training afternoons

Our next training afternoons will be on Wednesday 6th November and Wednesday 11th December. The practice will be open for patients to come in to collect/drop off prescriptions and book appointments/make enquiries at reception. However, there will be no clinical staff on site and our telephone lines will be switched over to the out of hours’ service on these afternoons to allow for staff training. Please ring 111 for advice if your query cannot wait until the following day. In an emergency, dial 999.

Home visits

We now have a paramedic, Kate Whiting, working with us on Mondays and Fridays who will cover the majority of our home visits on these days. Please ensure that if you need a home visit, you contact the practice before 10am where possible. This will allow us to plan the workload more efficiently. We have a large and very geographically spread area and need to use our resources effectively.

Dr Midforth patients

If your Registered GP was previously Dr Midforth, we will write to advise you of your new Registered GP. This is a complex issue and we allocate so each GP has a fair proportion in relation to the number of sessions they work. Unfortunately, we cannot take patient requests for this but you remain able to see any GP at either of our sites.

Flu days

We have had two of our flu days and have two remaining on:

·       Tuesday 15th October 2.00 – 6.30pm at Holbrook

·       Thursday 24th October 2.00 - 6.30pm at Shotley

We have been advised that our second delivery of vaccinations for those at risk under 65 will be delayed so there is a possibility that we will run out of vaccines on 24th October. If you turn up on this date and we have run out then we will book you into a clinic to ensure you are guaranteed a vaccine. We are unable to release these slots until this date but if you wish to check availability please ring nearer the time.

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

We are nearly at the end of our first four weeks of work and what a lot has happened!

You may have noticed lots of scaffolding outside and some hoarding in the waiting room. You will also have heard a lot of noise with drilling and cutting coming from the roof space.

Upstairs (yes, we have stairs but they’re boarded up) we have the bones of a conference room and two offices. First fix electrics are currently being fitted and plasterboard is being put up where we’re sure there are no further changes. Storage areas are being boarded out and doorways made.

Over the next few weeks, work will continue on services, plasterboard, plastering and joinery before glazing the hardwood panels into the corridor. Once glazed it will be time to remove the ceiling in the waiting room and make good this work. This will be done over a weekend and should not disrupt the general running of the surgery.

Once the upstairs work is completed, some staff will move up to allow rooms downstairs to be reconditioned into clinical areas. We currently have a lot of pressure on room space and one meeting this week ended up taking place in three different rooms! We’re hoping the work we’re doing now will be future proof for a while and provide more opportunities for local services.

Obviously the work is creating noise and we are doing our best to work round this but please be patient – it will all be worth it.
